This morning was the 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk for Pat Harmon. What an unbelievably inspirational day. The day managed to be just as successful as last years event. Here's some of the statistics.
There were over 500 participants to cross the finish line in Coach Harmon's honor. Over $15,000 was raised for Brain Cancer Research. One man was honored for his battle with cancer, one man was honored for what he stood for: to never give in.
New to this years race was the 1/2 mile fun run. It was a good time! We had about 15 youngsters run a lap and a half around the soccer fields. I led the race on a lead bike which was entertaining. The kids started the race a little too fast in my opinion, they are just starting to learn race strategy! They almost caught me right at the gun as I tried to speed away on the slick grass!
Before the 5K Race started, we kept the tradition of last year and listened to a speech that Coach Harmon gave at a 2009 Relay for Life event in which he explained what he was going through. It was a touching speech that filled the air with inspiration. Here's a picture of me in the moment.
The race went smoothly, course was perfect! The turnout was wonderful. Additionally, many members of Coach Harmon's family came out for the event and they were grateful for what we had done. Here's a picture of some of the members of the Smithtown Girls XC Team finishing the race.
A wonderful picture capturing the attitude of the days events: everyone uniting and joining hands to race for a cure to defeat cancer. Lastly, many of my family members came to the race which was a nice treat. Also, my roommate from Marist came along for the ride which was very nice of him. Thanks, Anthony Graci! And, another shout-out to a fellow Leo Hall resident, friend, and blog reader (Anthony Zanin) for donating to the run. Thanks to you and to all who donated to the cause (including my Coach at Marist, check out his blog here)!

Overall, a day in which a noteworthy man was remembered. Can't wait for the 3rd Annual 5K Run/Walk for Pat Harmon!
